I was 15 in 1959 when the Maryland came to Todd (?) shipyard in Alameda California to be scrapped. I had read about it in the Oakland Tribune and asked my Dad if there was some way we could go look at her. Sure enough, he arranged a boat ride that weekend to take a look.

I am not sure if it was my Dad's boat or his friend Van's but Van was with us. I took these shots with my Kodak Brownie Holiday.

The following weekend I took my Boy Scout patrol (Beaver patrol of San Lorenzo's Troop 601) on a bicycle ride to the ship yard for points for our cycling merit badge and took this picture.
